WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?

The most common sign of cat scratch disease is raised skin lesions, which are red to purple and can number from a few to over one hundred.

They are found on the face, chest, arms, and legs, but generally not on the palms or soles.  If cat scratch disease spreads internally, it can cause fever, that explains its old name, cat scratch fever. It can also cause weight loss, nausea, and vomiting.  Involved organs often include the liver and spleen, which may be enlarged on physical examination.
