HOW IS IT TREATED?
Cat scratch disease responds to several different oral antibiotics. Erythromycin is the one most frequently prescribed, but clarithromycin, azithromycin, and doxycycline also appear to be effective. Antibiotic medication is given at a standard dose for two to three months, but longer if there is blood stream or internal organ involvement. In many cases no treatment is necessary: The disease runs its course and disappears.
